The recycling chain is started by your collaboration. By correctly depositing glass packaging waste in the green bin, you contribute to protecting the environment and generating employment and prosperity.
Glass packaging waste deposited in the green bins are selectively collected and transported to the processing plant. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be used countless number of times to create new glass packagings with no change in properties nor reduction in quality.
Glass packaging waste is transported to the processing plant. This waste is subjected to a process of sorting and crushing. In this way, we obtain cullet: small fragments of clean glass that are used as a raw material.
The cullet is then sent to the glass maker, preventing the extraction of raw materials such as sand, caustic soda and limestone. Recycled glass gives rise to new glass packaging with characteristics and quality that are identical to the originals. What’s more, this process reduces CO2 emissions and saves energy. This is because the oven temperature for the melting of cullet is lower than that required for its raw materials.
Obliged companies use the glass packaging waste as packaging for the products they commercialise. More than 2,600 companies finance the recycling system with their contributions via the Green Dot.
In commercial establishments we can find products packaged in glass which comply with the regulations. They can be differentiated from others by the Green Dot on their label.
The recycling chain
The glass recycling chain is a perfect circle which allows the glass packagings to come back to life countless number of times. All the machinery that is activated by recycling is a clear example of sustainability and of a circular economy.
To make this possible, the combined work of the catering sector, the industry and government bodies is very important, but only the responsible citizen is able to set it in motion . All of our actions are a considerable commitment on the preservation of the environment and on a sustainable social development.
